GARY FISCH, PRESIDENT/CEO

When Gary was working toward his B.S. from Rider College in Political Science, he didn’t yet know where life was going to take him. Gary fell in love with wine in his senior year of college while working with his father, a liquor salesman, and decided to become an expert. He educated himself at the Sommelier Institute in New Jersey and at several of Windows on the World’s wine courses. The secret to his success is a passionate love and broad knowledge of his product — and the skill to communicate that delight. That enthusiasm and intelligence served him well when he teamed up with his brother Mark in 1987 and opened his first store in Madison, New Jersey. Three moves later, Gary’s now has stores in Bernardsville, N.J., on Route 23 North in Wayne, N.J and Closter, N.J. Gary’s expertise has earned him national media attention as “The Wine Guy” on the TV Food Network show Bobby Flay Hot off the Grill. He has made guest appearances on CNN, New Jersey 12 and Bloomberg radio and television. In January 2009, he was profiled in New Jersey Monthly’s “Power Issue” as one of the 101 Most Influential People in the Garden State. Not bad for a guy who simply loves to share his enthusiasm for wine!

MARIKO HACHIYA, GENERAL MANAGER

I come to Gary’s Wine and Marketplace following a 20yr career in hospitality, with a focus on Food and Wine – most recently as the National Beverage Director for a fine dining group. I look forward to continuing this journey with the team here in St Helena.I’ve lived in the Napa Valley for the past 15 years, having grown up in the Midwest and attending school in New York. Being surrounded by icons of the wine world, it would be impossible to not be excited to constantly learn about wines. When I’m not at the market, I can be found walking the vineyards with my husband, daughter, and our German shepherd.

CHRISTIE BASINAS, IMPORT BUYER

Originally from Massachusetts, but having lived in the Loire Valley, Washington D.C., Île de France, and the Bay Area, Christie Basinas comes to the Gary’s team with a passion for wine from around the world. Entering the wine world as a Buyer on the East Coast while earning the French Wine Scholar & WSET Advanced certificates, Christie came to Sonoma County to practice biodynamic farming and minimal interventionist winemaking. Having worked with 70+ varietals across multiple AVAs, they enthusiastically return to the global world of wine by curating a selection of terroir-driven wines. When not dreaming of Champagne, Christie can be found home in Napa tending to succulents, observing vineyards, chatting in French, or relaxing with their two cats, Nebbia & Freisa.

BRYAN MCCALL, WINE DIRECTOR

I was born on the east coast in Virginia and most of my family lives in the southeast, but I’ve spent most of my life in Southern California. After High School I had dreams of being a chef. My family couldn’t afford to send me to CIA in Hyde Park so I went to the restaurant where we celebrated big family occasions looking for a job. In the summer of 2014, I moved to the Napa Valley with a goal of being a sommelier at a Michelin starred restaurant. I spent over 4 years serving some of the best, rarest and most expensive wines the world has to offer. Wine is about making people happy and connecting with friends and family. I remember most of the great wines I’ve tasted in my career, but I’ll never forget the people I’ve shared them with.
